Truck driver from Mardan accuses Swabi police of torture

MARDAN, 8 September: A truck driver hailing from Mardan has alleged that policemen deployed at Yar Hussain Police Station in Swabi have subjected him to torture and broken his ribs.

The driver, Asad Khan, told media persons at Mardan Press Club on Thursday he was bringing tobacco bundles in his truck from Yar Hussain area in Swabi on Thursday when he was compelled to park the truck on the main road due to closure of the road. He said Yar Hussain Police Station officials arrived there and started beating him over parking the truck at inappropriate place. He said the local people intervened and rescued him from the police. He said the local people also took him to hospital and protested against the behaviour of police. Asad Khan said Deputy Superintendent of Police Iftikhar Shah assured him that action will be taken against responsible policemen, but nothing has been done so far.

“My ribs have been broken and I am also feeling dizziness due to police torture. I was beaten black and blue without any fault. I want justice,” he told TNN.

Yar Hussain Police Station officials have denied torturing the truck driver. They said he had parked his truck at a wrong place.
