PESHAWAR, 6 October: A two day orientation workshop for newly elected nazimeen of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa concluded here in a local hotel on Tuesday.
The orientation workshop was organized by Local Government (LG) and Election and Rural Development Department (ERDD) in collaboration with Sub-National Governance (SNG). Around 23 nazimeen participated in the workshop, who were trained in local governance, planning and finance before they present and pass the first budget for their respective districts.
Talking to TNN Himayatullah Mayaar, district nazim of Mardan and leader of Awami National Party (ANP) said that PTI led provincial government had not made rules of business for running the local governments yet. Similarly the provincial government was unable to define the powers of local governments and constitute the Provincial Finance Commission to distribute resources between the provinces and districts, he said and added that districts nazimeen were deprived of having development funds and were being asked by the provincial government to pass the non-developmental budget. He said that due to the aforementioned issues, they were facing a lot of problems in running the district governments.
On the hand, the provincial minister for local governments Inayatullah Khan said that administrative powers of various departments and development funds had been transferred to district nazimeen . However, he said that a proper procedure and mechanism would be made soon for the smooth running of local governments.
