BARA, June 27: A two-day polio vaccination campaign has started in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency.
The agency’s Health Department notified that up to 40,000 children would be vaccinated during the campaign, which is being held with special cooperation of the United Arab Emirates government.
Administration officials say 118 vaccination teams are participating in this drive while armed forces and Khasadar personnel are providing security to the health workers.
Last month a polio campaign was carried out in Bara after five years and the ongoing activity is the fourth stage of this campaign.
Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan are the only countries that have the poliovirus. The World Health Organisation has notified that the poliovirus has been transferred from Pakistan to Iraq and Syria. The organization has made it mandatory upon all Pakistanis to het a polio vaccination certificate while travelling abroad.
