ABBOTTABAD: Two female teachers have been arrested in Abbottabad over alleged torture on a six-year-old student.
The arrests have been made after a video went viral on the social media showing two teachers torturing a student at Government Primary School Karimpura. In the video, the two teachers are holding the girl student from her hair and dragging her.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan had taken notice of the incident and ordered suspension of the two teachers.
The deputy commissioner Abbottabad has also formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter.
Adviser to Chief Minister on Elementary and Secondary Education Ziaullah Bangash has confirmed that the two school teachers and head of the school have been suspended. He said the district education officer has also been asked to file report on the incident.
Ziaullah Bangash has made it clear that violence and torture will not be tolerated in educational institutions.
DEO (Female) Samina Altaf Shah said while talking to media that the secretary has directed her to look into the matter. She said she has sent proposals to the secretary, and action in this regard will be taken within a day or two. She said the transfer of the school staff has also been included in the suggestions sent by her to the secretary. She said a focal person will be appointed to tackle such issues in future.
District Police Officer (DPO) Abbas Majeed Marwat has also taken notice of the incident and ordered local police to hold inquiry. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yasin Khan Janjua has formed a police team for investigation.
A case about the incident has been filed at Cantt Police Station on the complaint of the father of the girl student after which the accused teachers have been arrested. The case was filed under Section 34 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Act. The First Information Report (FIR) shows that the affected girls in student of first grade.
The KP ESED is adopting zero tolerance policy on the issue of corporal punishments and torture in the schools and immediate action is being taken on such complaints.
