PESHAWAR, 27 November: Peshawar Police have installed vehicle scanners equipped with modern technology at two entry points in Peshawar to check smuggling of drugs and weapons.

The scanners which are equipped with six cameras, wireless and signal system have been installed at Karkhano Market check post and Kohat Road check post in Matani. The scanners will detect drugs, weapons and explosive material in all parts of the passing vehicles.

The people of Peshawar have welcomed the installation of scanners to stop terror activities and smuggling of drugs, but complained that its slow system impedes the flow of traffic.

Hayatabad Khyber check post head Khairul Bashar told TNN that currently the scanners remain in place from 8:00am till 3:00pm and soon the scanners will be made functional for 24 hours.

“The scanners are equipped with technology which detects illicit materials in the hidden parts of the vehicles. Special teams have been appointed for these scanners and 10 to 15 personnel remain deployed with these scanners,” he said.
