PESHAWAR: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Peshawar (UoP), has been closed after the coronavirus test of a student came back as positive.

The classes of the JMC Department will be held online till its reopening. Earlier, three students of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies were diagnosed with coronavirus after which the department was closed.

Other departments of the university which have been closed include Centre of Biotechnology and Microbiology, English Department, Management Studies and Environmental Sciences Department. According to the university administration, all the departments which have been closed will now arrange online classes.

The exam of Environmental Sciences Department, which was scheduled to commence from November 16, was postponed. After end of the two-week quarantine period, the exams will commence on November 29.

The university administration said all the closed departments will be reopened after two-week quarantine period. The chairmen of all the departments have been given powers to extend the closure if more coronavirus cases are reported.

On November 20, a primary school of Baitul Maal was closed in Landikotal tehsil of Khyber tribal district after the coronavirus tests of two students and a teacher came back as positive.

The local administration said teacher Rahid Gul and two students Abdullah Alamkhani and Siddique were diagnosed with coronavirus.

On November 18, the Institute of Management Studies in the University of Peshawar was closed after emergence of a coronavirus case in the department.

On November 17, schools in Charsadda and Nowshera were closed after the students and teachers were diagnosed with coronavirus.

TNN correspondent from Charsadda reported that two teachers of Government High School Naway Killay Prang Ghar Hassan Khan and Manzoor Hussain and eighth grade student Atif were diagnosed with coronavirus after which the school was closed for 15 days. A fourth grade student of Government Primary School Ziarat Prang Ghar, Muhammad Ilyas was also diagnosed with coronavirus after which the administration closed the school for seven days.

In Nowshera, two government schools were closed and smart lockdown was imposed in several streets and neighbourhoods after emergence of coronavirus cases.

A private school in Bara area of Khyber tribal district was also closed after emergence of 17 cases of coronavirus.

On November 16, three educational institutions were closed in Kurram tribal district after emergence of 48 coronavirus cases.
