PESHAWAR: The United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Joseph F Dunford will visit Pakistan on 5 September.

This was confirmed by US Secretary of Defence James Mattis during a news briefing at Pentagon in Washington.

He said terrorism is our common foe and fighting this menace will be the primary part of the discussion to be held with Prime Minister Imran Khan and other Pakistani leaders. He said other issues of bilateral relations between the two countries will also come under discussion.

The Pak-US ties suffered a fresh setback after the Pakistan Foreign Office rejected a statement by the US State Department regarding the contents of a phone call between Pompeo and Imran Khan last week.

The Foreign Office spokesman had stated that there was no mention in the conversation about terrorists operating in Pakistan. However, the US stuck to its statement.
