MINGORA, August 27: The American relief agency, the USAID, has distributed relief items among 13 militancy-affected families under livelihood assistance programme in Swat district.

According to USAID programme coordinator Mr Naveed Yousafzai, sewing machines, clothes and plastic furniture were distributed among 9 female and 4 male representatives of their families at a eremony in Saidu Sharif.

Some of women, who got the livelihood assistance, told TNN that after getting the aid, they would be able to earn money and provide for their children with dignity.

“My husband’s spinal cord was affected in bomb explosion. He is at bed rest for the last six years. I submitted our documents to the USAID, after which we were informed that our case had been accepted. Now they gave us clothes for business purpose. I had come to know about the USAID programme while listening to a radio station. I am very thankful for this assistance, because I have three daughters and I did not have any other option to start earning.”
