MARDAN, 21 December: Mardan police have arrested a 10-member gang involved in lifting of vehicles.

Two lifted vehicles, three motorcycles and Rs370,000 cash has also been recovered from the possession of the arrested gang members. Mardan police chief Mian Saeed said at a press conference on Tuesday that the vehicles stolen from Mardan were being taken to Punjab and cars stolen from Punjab were being brought to Mardan. He said police were investigating the matter. He said the Mardan police with the cooperation of the political administration of Khyber Agency conducted a raid in Landikotal area and arrested four members of the gang. He said two stolen vehicles and cash received after selling one vehicle was recovered from the car lifters. He said six more members of the gang were arrested from Mardan on the information provided by the arrested lifters.

Mian Saeed said the Car Lifting Cell has recovered 17 lifted vehicles in its different raids in the district. He said the recovered vehicles will be handed over to owners after legal formalities.

“We are recovering more stolen vehicles as we have expanded the scope of investigation. These car lifters belong to an inter-provincial group who have also lifted vehicles from Nowshera, Peshawar and Swat,” Mian Saeed told TNN.
