NOWSHERA: The family of an eight-year-old girl, killed after sexual abuse in Nowshera few days ago that sparked anguish, have called upon the government to complete legislation about public hanging of rapists as soon as possible and start its implementation from the killer of Ewaz Noor.
Yousaf Jehan, uncle of sexual abuse victim Ewaz Noor, who was killed after the brutal act in Kaka Sahib area on January 19, said while talking to TNN that the nominated accused in the case have been arrested, but the family will be satisfied after the killer of Ewaz Noor is hanged publicly.
On Saturday, the anguish also echoed in the lower house of parliament where lawmakers passed a resolution calling for public hanging of culprits involved in sexual abuse and murder of children.
The civil society has increased lobbying for strictest laws for punishing child rapists after emergency of so many such cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Yousaf Jehan, the relative of victim said the purpose of lobbying and protests is that whatever happened with Ewaz Noor doesn’t happen with any other child. He said he is satisfied with the progress of police investigation. However, he said, the victim family and all the area people will take to roads if they felt at any stage that the requirements of justice are not met.
Yousaf Jehan said the whole area is in a state of shock and parents are very concerned about safety of their children. He said the parents cannot remove their attention from their children even for a moment.
SP Investigation Sajjad Ahmed said police are fully cooperating with the victim family. He said 15 cases of sexual abuse were reported in Nowshera in 2019, while six such cases have been reported in the first month of 2020.
Main accused in the case, Abdar, has confessed during investigation that he sexually abused Ewaz and upon resistance killed her. He also revealed that he abused Ewaz to avenge his own abuse allegedly by an uncle of Ewaz.
The National Assembly on Saturday passed a resolution demanding public hanging of rape and murder convicts. All the parties, except the PPP, voted in favour of the resolution.
The KP Assembly’s committee has also framed recommendations for legislation which include the suggestion of public hanging of culprits involved in sexual abuse and murder of children.
