PESHAWAR, 21 July: Voting for election on 41 seats of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly is underway today (Thursday).

According to media reports, the voting process started at 8:00am and will continue without any break till 5:00pm. However, the voters who arrive at the polling stations before 5:00pm will be allowed to cast their votes even after the closing time.

There are 49 seats in the Azad Kashmir Assembly among which elections are being held on 41 direct seats. Political observers are expecting a tough contest among the candidates of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

A total of 432 candidates from 42 political parties are in the run for the legislative assembly elections in Azad Kashmir. As many as 2,674,586 voters, including 1,190,839 women, from Azad Kashmir and other parts of Pakistan will elect these representatives. The new prime minister will need at least 25 votes of members.

Besides Azad Kashmir, voting for Kashmir elections is also underway in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As many as 5,992 Kashmiris in KP will be using their right to vote in the polls.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), 20 polling stations have been set up for LA-35 and LA-41 in nine districts of KP.
