WANA: The people of Wana, the main town in South Waziristan tribal district, on Friday held a walk to create awareness about the importance of constructing new dams.

The walk organised by the Youth Jirga was attended by Wana Assistant Commissioner Faheedullah Khan, local elders and youth in large number. Participants of the walk were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans regarding awareness about importance of dams.

Speakers on the occasion emphasised the need for water conservation to save our future generations from drought and other impacts of climate change. They feared that the people of South Waziristan will have to migrate again if dams were not built for agricultural lands.

The assistant commissioner said funds will be allocated for local small dams in the next annual development programme.
