PESHAWAR, 17 November: Like other parts of the country, Wapda Hydro Union workers staged protest demonstrations in different cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar against the proposed privatization of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco).
In Peshawar, the protesters gathered in front of main office of Pesco on Shami Road and chanted slogans in favor of their demands. They were of the view that once the company was privatized, power tariff would further go up as their would be no check on the owners. Giving example of the Karachi Electrict (KE) they said that despite provision of free electricity the company is in loss.
They asked the government to introduce reforms in the system but refrain from privatizing it.
Pesco employees in Mardan, Nowshera, Kohat, DI Khan and Swabi have announced boycott of their duties for indefinite period.
