LANDIKOTAL, 29 June: The World Food Programme (WFP) has distributed food items among 1,500 families in Landikotal tehsil of Khyber Agency.

Khyber Agency Food Programme In-charge Ikramullah Shinwari said the ration had been distributed among the local people in return for their labour for construction work on streets, roads, canals and dykes in their villages. He said the food package includes two bags of flour, ghee, sugar and other food items.

The local tribesmen have appreciated the ration distribution programme of WFP. They said they not only get ration under the scheme, but development schemes had also been carried out in their villages under the programme.

“Food package was given to us in return for repairing roads in our area. We filled all the ditches in the roads with mud and improved their condition,” a local tribesman who received ration told TNN.

“It is a very good scheme that people work for getting food package. Giving free of cost food was not a very good option for tribesmen. We are very happy that we have earned that food package and we had not been treated as beggars,” another person said.

Mr Shinwari said this programme will be expanded to Bara and Jamrud tehsils of Khyber Agency in the coming months.
