PESHAWAR: The Metrological Department has predicted monsoon rains and thunderstorm in upper and central parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from tomorrow (Wednesday) till Saturday.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the Met Office has predicted that weak monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are continuously penetrating in upper and central pars of KP. However, strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are likely to enter in upper parts of the province from Wednesday night and likely to spread to central and southern parts from Thursday to Saturday.

Under the influence of this weather system, widespread rains, windstorm and thunderstorm are expected in Hazara, Malakand, Peshawar and Mardan divisions of KP from Wednesday night to Saturday, while scattered rains, windstorm and thunderstorm are expected in Hazara, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan divisions. Flows may attain medium to high flood level in Rivers Indus, Tarbela and Kabul at Nowshera along with their tributaries during Thursday to Saturday.

The PDMA said the heavy rains may cause flash floods in local nullah/river line of Hazara division and may trigger land sliding in Hazara divison on Thursday to Friday. Heavy rains may also cause flooding in urban areas of Peshawar during this period.

The PDMA said tourists must be informed about the weather forecast and availability of all emergency services and staff and other resources must be ensured. In case of any emergency situation, the PDMA may be informed through helpline 1700 which remains active round the clock. All the line departments have also been directed to remain active round the clock to restore road links in case of any emergency situation.

The PDMA has directed these steps in order to avoid/minimize human losses and damages to property in the event of any emergency situation. the copies of the PDMA letter have been forwarded to all relevant departments.

The Meteorological Department has also forecast widespread monsoon rains in other parts of the country from Wednesday to Saturday.

According to weather advisory by the department, widespread rains/thunderstorm are expected in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Hazara, Islamabad and Kashmir during the next four days.
