BARA: The widow of slain schoolteacher Irfanullah Afridi was given an appointment letter for a job on Saturday.

The members of Khyber Political Alliance brought the appointment letter which was received by Irfanullah’s brother Gul Bahadur.

Khyber Political Alliance leader Sohbat Khan Afridi said while talking to media persons the widow of Irfanullah has been given employment at Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan School and College on contract basis which will be made permanent later. He said two of the demands after the extrajudicial murder of Irfanullah have been accepted i.e. apology on filing of first information report (FIR) against him and employment for his widow.

Sohbat Afridi said other demands pertain to financial compensation for the family of Irfanullah, no interference by the administrative departments into the affairs of tribal districts and production of all the missing persons in the court. He said progress has been made on these demands and hoped that the victim family will get compensation soon.

The Khyber Political Alliance leader said Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Muhammad Shafiq Afridi and Qabail Awami Movement leader Abdur Razzaq Afridi had taken responsibility for making the government agree to these demands.

Irfanullah went missing from Jamrud area of Khyber district on June 01. He was in Jamrud to receive his appointment letter as a government teacher. Family sources said Irfanullah had two Master’s degrees and he was teaching in different private educational institutions as a religious teacher.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on June 23 claimed that it had killed four terrorists in an operation and Irfanullah was one of them.

Khyber Political Alliance then started protests against the alleged fake encounter and its sit-in continued for nine days till the government accepted demands of the protesters. The protesters after staging a sit-in in Bara had moved towards the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

The Political Alliance spokesman Chiragh Afridi said the commissioner Peshawar held negotiations with a delegation of the protesters and talks remained successful and all the demands of the Alliance were accepted. The spokesman said the main demands pertain to filing of FIR of the extrajudicial killing of Irfanullah, declaring him a martyr and punishment for personnel involved in his murder, and end to extrajudicial killings.
