MIRANSHAH: An old age woman was injured in Land mine blast in Tabi Tol Khel area of North Waziristan on Thursday.
According to government sources, the 90-year-old Dawar Bibi was collecting firewood from the nearby area when she came across a land mine. It was added that when she touched the mine it exploited with a huge bang, injuring the lady. The officials added that she was critically injured and was shifted to the combined military hospital in District Bannu.
Landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are posing a serious threat to the lives of innocent tribesmen and are killing people in both South and North Waziristan. Waziristan locals say areas are still littered with mines and IED. Pakistan Military has started work on clearing the region infested with landmines and improvised explosive and it was announced that soon the area will declare totally clean.
140 Levies men promoted
NORTH WAZIRISTAN: The deputy commissioner of North Waziristan has promoted 140 levies personal on Thursday. In this regard, a ceremony was held here at Tehsil Building, Jirga hall, in which deputy commissioner Abdul Nasir, and assistant commissioner Taimur Afridi participate. Seventy personnel were promoted from Sepoy to the rank of Lance Naik while seventy were promoted from Lance Naik to the rank of Naib.
The Levies personnel were waiting for their promotion since long. The deputy commissioner while addressing the gathering said that the levies force has offered high sacrifices for the maintained peace in the tribal districts.
He added that the government values their sacrifice and now the tribal areas have been merged with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Levies and Khasadar forces will also be merged with the KP police department. He said that Levies men will be provided with the same rights as provided to the provincial police. He assured them that no one will be allowed to violate their rights.
