PESHAWAR, 03 December: Like other parts of the world International disabled persons’ day was also observed in Pakistan on Thursday. The main purpose of observing this day is to create awareness among general masses regarding rights of disabled persons.
Different organizations of disabled persons held rallies in various cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to highlight their problems and demand more rights for them.
To mark the day, a rally was held by the disabled persons in front of the Peshawar press club. Holding banners and placards, the participants of the rally marched towards chief minister house.
Similarly, a rally was also held in Mardan. The rally started from College square and culminated in front of the press club. They asked the government to increase the reserved quota for disabled persons in the government jobs from 2 percent to 3 percent. They also demanded of the government to follow the quota while advertising government vacancies.
They also demanded that government should make arrangements to impart vocational training to disabled persons so that they could be able to earn livelihood for them. They further demanded the setting up of sports facilities for the disabled persons.
