A view of the literal gathering in Bannu. - Gohar Wazir

BANNU, August 2: The Progressive Writers Association, a union of Pashto poets and literati in Bannu, held a gathering to pay tribute to poets and writers who have been displaced from North Waziristan as a result of military operation Zarb-e-Azb.

A writer, Mr Raham Zaman Zalmi, chaired the literal gathering. In the first part of the gathering, elders of Waziristan, poets and writers debated the importance of poetry and role of poets in the prevailing scenario.

A Mushaira (poetry recital session) was also held in the second phase of the event, in which the poets from North Waziristan and Kohat, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Bannu presented their poetry.

The third and final phase of the literal event was traditional music and attan, a type of dance, by youngsters of North Waziristan.
