MARDAN, 14 November: To promote folk music in province, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa culture department on Saturday organized a competition of “tappay”, one of the most popular and old form of Pashto music.
Titled as “Ya Qurban” a typical slogan a singer usually sings in the start of tapay, the competition was held at the Mardan Sports Complex and was attended by 98 participants.
Zarnosh topped the competition followed by Jalal and Khairul Ameen who got second and third positions respectively.
The chief guest on this occasion, adviser to the chief minister Khyber Pakhtunwa on culture, Mr. Amjad Afridi gave away prized to the best performers. He awarded cash prize of Rs.100,000 to the topper and Rs.75000 and Rs. 50,000 to the second and third position holders respectively.
Speaking on the occasion Amjad Afridi said that such programs would be organized throughout the province. “Tapa is our culture. We should thrive to promote our culture. We should encourage our youth to work on our folk music. This program is aimed at promoting and preserving the centuries-old Pakhtun culture and we will continue our strggles,” remarked Mr. Afridi.
