PARACHINAR, 25 April: Peace Youth Groups, a society of local youth, arranged a seminar on the rights of people in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in Parachinar, Kurram Agency yesterday.
Speakers at the seminar called on the government to take immediate steps for implementation of reforms and provide constitutional rights to the people of the tribal areas. They lamented that the people of FATA had been deprived of all constitutional rights since 1901. They said the government should now give more attention to development and prosperity of FATA as compared to other areas of the country.
The speakers also demanded the government to introduce reforms in the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR).
“It was a very informative gathering and such functions should also be arranged in future. We want rights like other people of Pakistan. We demand laws of Islamabad in Kurram Agency. We also need judiciary in FATA,” a speaker told TNN.
“The government is not focussing on problems of the FATA people. It is a resource-rich area, but the government has done nothing so far to utilise these resources,” another speaker said.
