PESHAWAR: Peshawar Zalmi cruised to 44-run victory against Karachi Kings in a match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Sharjah on Thursday.
Karachi Kings won the toss and invited Zalmi to bat first thinking that they would take advantage of dew factor in the chasing. They started well and made early inroads into Zalmi batting, but Imam-ul-Haq was firm on the other end and scored 56 runs. Dawson also batted well for his 43, while Darren Sammy played a little cameo of 24 runs to take the total to 153 for the loss of eight wickets. Zalmi managed a respectable total despite four ducks in their innings, while Wahab Riaz was also on zero, but he remained not out.
For Kings, Sikandar Raza and Usman Shinwari took two wickets each, while Mohammad Amir, Aamer Yameen and Imad Wasim took one wicket each.
While chasing the target, Kings were all out on 109 for 9. No batsman could post a good score and Mohammad Rizwan was the top scorer with 32 runs. One thing they had in common in Zalmi on Thursday was that four of their batsmen also got out without scoring. The teams batting second are winning most of matches in PSL recently, but that did not happen for Kings.
For Zalmi, Hasan Ali was the pick of bowlers who took four wickets, while Umaid Asif, Wahab Riaz and Pollard got one wicket each.
Imam-ul-Haq was declared player of the match as he batted through difficult conditions and helped his team post a fighting total.
With Thursday’s victory, Zalmi came on second position on the points table with four points, while Quetta Gladiators are on the top. The rest of teams have two points each.
